Anti-reflux surgery, or Fundoplication, treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by strengthening the barrier between the stomach and esophagus. This prevents acid reflux and alleviates symptoms not controlled by medication.
Types of Anti-Reflux Surgery:
Nissen Fundoplication: A 360-degree wrap of the stomach around the esophagus to prevent acid reflux.
Toupet Fundoplication: A 270-degree partial wrap of the stomach around the esophagus, used for patients with weaker esophageal muscles.
Dor Fundoplication: A 180-degree anterior wrap of the stomach, often used in cases of esophageal motility disorders.
